Collection Description:

Selections of photographs from the Serge Jauvin (2,338 images) and Paul Charest (Richard Dominique sub-fonds, 290 images) collections of the Tshakapesh Institute. These photographs show the practice of traditional activities such as camp life, hunting and fishing, trapping, hide processing, canoe making and practice, crafts, as well as religious rituals. Portraits and landscapes are also included.

The development of this collection is the result of a collaboration between the Institut Tshakaseph, a cultural organization of the Innu Nation, and the Library of Laval University. The descriptions of the photographs were carried out by three students of Innu origin during the summers of 2019, 2020 and 2021 with the collaboration of Serge Jauvin. The digitization, description and dissemination of the photographs were made possible with the support of the Canadian Strategy for the Digitization of Documentary Heritage.

The complete collections of traditional Innu photographs by Serge Jauvin (10,689 slides) and Paul Charest (Richard Dominique sub-fonds, 479 slides) are held at the Tshakapesh Institute in Uashat, Quebec.
